Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) It's always interesting to find out what happens when the creative heads of a band do things on their own. In this case I'm talking about "Antique Seeking Nuns", who eventually evolved into "Sanguine Hum" - two splendid incarnations of the songwriting alliance of Joff Winks and Matt Baber. While the "Joff Winks Band" is active in a more mainstream-oriented rock singer-songwriter realm, Matt Baber dives deeply into highly elaborate electronica textures here. The extensive use of Rhodes piano is, of course, exactly what I need, and the drum breaks exhibit a truly addictive groove. Favorite track: Main Theme From Outskirts.

about

Inspired by the cover image, and the hypothetical question “what would an album with that cover sound like?”, the all-instrumental recording Outskirts attempts an answer with an unusual mix of electronica, Jazz Rock and Prog. This first officially released Matt Baber album follows on from a number of privately released recordings, including the seven album project Cheap Electrolysis.
